Sandburg Park Family Session

Guess what I did last weekend! Now I know your probably thinking – duh Jen, this is a blog post from a photography session so I am guessing you photographed last weekend – and you’re right I did! But guess who I got the pleasure of photographing!? My aunt, uncle and cousins!

I started my photography business a couple of years ago and after my aunt and uncle came to meet LC, Mary reached out to me wondering if I would be interested in doing family photos for them because they had never had them done. I immediately and enthusiastically said yes! I honestly cannot explain the joy and excitement it brings me that they are supporting me and my business. Family are some of the best to have behind you cheering you on and they are the best at it. In fact, during the session my cousin, Peter, stopped me and said “You know Jennifer I am impressed! Your direction has been excellent, I can’t speak about the photos yet but you’re doing great.” That made my day! Even behind the camera my face was hurting from smiling!

Phil and Mary have been married for 38 years and they have been through a lot together. They have raised two amazing successful kids, Ellyn and Peter, who are the best cousins. Throughout the years I am sure there have been trying times as with all marriages, but what I love most about their love for each other is how much laughter and fun is always had when their together. It doesn’t matter if it’s just the two of them or if they are all together as a family of four there’s always fun and laughter. Our session was no exception. We had a great time together and laughed a lot. They are the best aunt and uncle a girl could wish for and as a couple they are an amazing example of a love that has stood and will continue to withstand the test of time.

Ellyn is a rockstar pharmacist in Indianapolis. She’s been working like crazy throughout the pandemic giving vaccines and helping get the world back on its feet. When she’s not crushing it at work, she’s crushing it at Orange Theory. I follow along on Instagram stories and let me tell you the workouts she posts do not look like they are for the faint of heart. I’ve always and will always look up to Ellyn. She’s an amazing cousin and friend. Fun fact: when we were younger we would do secret Santa at our family Christmas but Ellyn and I always wanted to pick each other so our parents rigged it and to this day Ellyn and I keep it up.

Peter is honestly one of the best people you could ever meet (I acknowledge I may have some bias here since he’s my cousin but just as anyone that knows him)! He has a Masters Degree in Community Counseling and Higher Education. He’s not afraid to take on and discuss the big issues and he makes it a point to create spaces encouraging open dialogue or put out podcasts that really make you stop and think. He’s constantly motivating and elevating others and when the going gets tough, Peter keeps going. Now don’t let me make it seem like Peter is all work and no play! He is also one of the funniest people I know. I really admire his ability to overcome and make everyone laugh when they need it most.

Phil, Mary, Ellyn and Peter,

Thank you so much for choosing me for your family session! I had so much fun and it means the world to me to always have your support, both in business and life.

Love,
Jen

Also a quick shout out to Beau for jumping in as my assistant during the session. He carries chairs like a boss and really is good at positively praising clients while they are posed. Thank you Beau!

In-Home Family Lifestyle Session

Welcome sweet baby Ava!

This past weekend I had the privilege of meeting (and photographing) the newest addition to Taylor and Aaron’s family, 2 week old baby Ava. She was the sweetest during our session. She let us know when she needed her breaks and was a perfect lady while we were taking photos.

Becoming parents is overwhelming in the best and the worst ways simultaneously. When it comes to parenthood, we talked about how you truly don’t know – until you know. It’s nothing you could really prepare for, though you may try. Parenthood really puts life in perspective and challenges all of us to really weigh and evaluate what’s most important and both of us agreed that it’s our babies.

You may recognize Taylor and Aaron from the blog and you would be correct. Two summers ago we did an anniversary session at Kettle Pond Park and it was so sweet and dreamy.

Fun fact: Taylor and Aaron were my first clients EVER! I shot their engagement photos at an apple orchard. At our session this past weekend we talked about the fun we have had at that session along with the mosquitoes and the heat. As a photographer it’s so amazing to be apart of the moments and it’s been so fun over the years to see their love and family grow. It’s really the sweetest thing.

It’s so nice to be experiencing this season of life with close friends. After the session Taylor, Aaron and I talked for a while about pregnancy, labor, delivery and adjusting to life as a growing family. Really we talked about all the things and it was great!

Taylor and Aaron,

Thank you so much for choosing me to photograph this family session welcoming Ava. I feel so grateful to have been right along with you two documenting the big moments and having you both as good friends. I can’t wait for LC and Ava to meet!

Best,
Jen
