As a family photographer there are few greater joys than becoming a part of a family’s yearly tradition and getting to document their growth and love. For several years I have had the privilege of capturing the essence of this sweet family and it has been as heartwarming as rewarding.

The magic of family photos is not all the work that goes in on the front end – picking outfits, styling hair, and trying not to forget your kid’s shoes – but later, when you look back at the photos and see how much change happened so quickly. As a parent, I know that I look back at photos of my girl and think “wow, she’s changed so incredibly much” which is completely different from my experience living through the time when the photo was captured. Its hard to explain, but day by day change is so sneaky that you can almost miss it. Having photos like these, year after year, to look back on can really transform you back to what life was like in that season and that’s what I love. You’re able to see how you interacted and connected – even if that’s having both of your boys lick your face at the same time when prompted do to a “nice” kiss.

One of the joys of long-term family photography is that I am able to incorporate personal touches into each session. Whether it’s a photo of the boys, arms wrapped around one another, sitting on a rock over-looking the water and farm across the way or a favorite pose, these elements add layers of meaning to the photographs, turning them into even more cherished memories that transcend the visual.
