Horicon Marsh Fall Family Session

Warm fall light, curious kids, and a boardwalk surrounded by golden marsh grass — that pretty much sums up this family session at the Horicon Marsh. The day couldn’t have been better. Temperatures were mild, the air was calm, and the light had that soft, hazy glow that makes everything feel a little extra cozy.

Mom and Dad showed up relaxed and ready to go, and their two boys wasted no time turning the boardwalk into an adventure. They stopped to spot geese, leaned over the railing to look for other marsh creatures, and chased each other down the path between photos. The only rule I had for the session was that no one was allowed to fall of the boardwalk but me and we almost made it. Luckily, everyone was okay and no one got wet.

As we walked, the sunlight kept getting better, filtering through the reeds and giving the whole scene a warm, golden tone. I grabbed a few shots of the boys walking between their parents, the kind of images that feel simple but end up saying the most. Nothing forced — just the comfort of being together.

Horicon Marsh has this way of slowing everything down. The sounds, the light, the open sky — I’d never visited and I will for sure be back. This location was recommended to me by Sara and Nate and also happens to be the location of their second date. I am so happy we chose it because, apart from being gorgeous, it has a meaning that Sara and Nate could share with the boys from when they were just becoming as a couple. By the end, the boys were tired and happy, our list of must have photos had all been checked off, Mom and Dad were happy (grateful to have made it through family photos – am I right?), and the last bit of sun was dipping below the horizon. This was one of those sessions that continued to reminded me why I love photographing families — not for the perfect poses, but for the little moments that happen in between.

Sara, Nate, Jackson and Beckett,

Thank you so much for meeting me out at the marsh for this perfect day! I love seeing you guys and catching up and as always I wish we had more time.

Love,
Jen
